Sparking a Dialogue

To reflect on four decades of HIV, we partnered with our Positively Fearless ambassadors to unpack what this key moment in time means to them.

In 1981, no one knew exactly what was taking place when a mysterious disease emerged which would later become the HIV/AIDS epidemic.1 The fear and uncertainty that it caused cannot be understated, especially within the LGBTQ community.

Four decades later, so much has changed. An HIV diagnosis today means something very different than it did back then. Progress in treatments have made the journey one in which those who contract HIV can not just survive, but thrive. In the words of our very own Kamaria Laffrey, “it's time [for people living with HIV] to be seen beyond our diagnosis and reflect on the path forward.”
